Hamas Border Control Hurts Private Arms Smugglers

Gaza arms smugglers complain of slow business since Hamas staged its military takeover of Gaza, allowing it to freely import weapons from Egypt without having to resort to smuggling to prevent discovery by rival Fatah terrorists.

Abdel Hamid Bahar, who claims to be the largest arms smuggler in the area, told Newsweek magazine that he was earning $3,000 a month at the height of terrorist warfare against Israel last summer but that business now is "zero."

He also said that although he maintains a neutral attitude towards Hamas and Fatah, "We will never return to Abu Mazen [Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas]."
