186,000 Foreign Worker in Israel, 84,000 Illegally

At the end of 2006, 186,000 foreign workers were in Israel – only 102,000 of them with valid work visas.

Some 84,000 entered Israel as tourists and stayed on past their visas. The workers come from 100 countries, though 96 percent come from Ghana, Philippines, Russia, China, Nepal, Romania, Turkey, India and Bulgaria.

The data comes from the Central Bureau of Statistic’s annual report on the matter.
