The Palestinian Authority (PA) representative to the United Nations pressured the U.N. Security Council to withdraw a proposed statement critical of conditions in the Gaza region. Despite Hamas's control of the area, the Fatah-led PA complained that it had not been consulted.

"It is unacceptable for anyone, including friends, to act on our behalf without our knowledge, without consulting us ... It would send wrong messages," said PA envoy Riyad Mansour.
