(IsraelNN.com) Army attorneys threatened Monday to charge Jewish residents of Hevron for the costs of expelling families from their homes in the Hevron market.  The two families currently living in the market are technically considered squatters, although legal experts have ruled that Jews may settle in the area.

Members of the community called the threat “the height of insolence,” saying, “the IDF should be embarrassed” for ignoring potential compromise solutions.  The threats are meant to prevent Hevron’s Jewish community from exercising its right to protest, they said.

Members of Knesset from NU/NRP denounced the threat, saying, “During the week in which we mark 78 years since the riots of 1929, the government should work to return the Jewish property that was stolen.”  The group expressed support for Hevron Jews’ “legitimate right to protest,” and promised to “stand by the side of Hevron residents in their just struggle.”
