The Swedish furniture chain Ikea caused anger among its customers recently when it was discovered that a map of the world sold at the store showed Israel without Judea, Samaria, or the Golan. Instead, the Golan was shown as being part of Syria.
Several customers purchased the map, which was printed on special fabric and sold for NIS 795, and discovered the mistake only after returning home. Following repeated complaints, Ikea representatives announced that they would stop printing the map, and would provide a full refund to upset customers.
Ikea representatives stressed that the mistake was due to “human error” and not to politics. Mistakes were made in the depiction of several other states as well, they said.
