    Monument for WWII Partisans

The city of Jerusalem plans to build a monument on Mt. Herzl in honor of Jewish partisans who fought the Nazis during the Second World War.  The monument was designed by a 92-year-old former partisan, and the project to install it was initiated by partisans who felt that existing monuments were small and unimpressive.

Approximately 10,000 Jews fought as partisans during WWII.  Some partisans said Monday that they were never properly understood in Israel, and expressed hope that the new monument would serve to engender respect, and would show future generations what they had done.
