The draft of the Economic Policy for 2008 includes proposed policy for dealing with foreign workers, both legal and illegal. As part of the new policy, Israel would only allow workers to enter from countries with which Israel has an agreement on the expulsion of workers when necessary. The policy would go into effect in the beginning of 2008.
The proposals would also allow for the expulsion of foreign workers who have not received permission to apply for citizenship by 2008, whether or not they have children born in Israel. A third policy would provide foreign workers with identification cards in order to make it easier for Immigration Authority officials to check workers’ identities.
