Monsignor Georg Gaenswein, Pope Benedict XVI’s secretary, said Thursday that Europeans should not ignore the danger of Islamification.  Gaenswein defended Benedict’s statements linking Islam and violence, and said that the Pope was trying to discourage naivety.

According to Sueddeutsche Magazin, Gaenswein warned that “wrongly understood respectfulness” could lead Europeans to ignore the struggle over Europe’s identity.  He called on Europeans to appreciate their Christian roots.
