      Traditional Golani March Shortened

The IDF has decided to shorten the traditional Golani Paratrooper Brigade march from 90 kilometers to 50 kilometers (from 56 to 31 miles). The change is one of several more substantive moves in order to make the Golani unit better prepared for wars such as the Hizbullah attack on Israel last summer.

"The war emphasized the need to change what we do and to make it more applicable to the different fronts and threats we face," Paratrooper Brigade Commander Lt. Col. Itzik Bar told the Jerusalem Post newspaper. "The recent war uncovered new information about the enemy and this is being emphasized. We get to know our enemies better through training in the North in terrain that resembles Syria and Lebanon."
