President Shimon Peres held his first meeting Tuesday with IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi.
On the agenda was the issue of establishing army training bases in the Negev, as well as the readiness of soldiers and reservists to meet military challenges. The two men also discussed the issue of how to motivate Israeli youth who are increasingly disenchanted with the prospect of service in the armed forces.
