The Fatah faction, headed by Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, has threatened another boycott of the PA legislative Council as the constitutional crisis continues to paralyze the emergency government.
Fatah is calling on its members to stay away from the meeting because it is a confidence vote called by Hamas on the new government headed through emergency appointment by Palestinian Authority (PA) Prime Minister Salam Fayyad instead of a vote to elect him.
Boycotts have prevented the legislative council from meeting since the Hamas military takeover in Gaza last month. Fayyad needs the support of 67 members in a vote of confidence, but 45 Hamas members cannot attend because they are being held by Israeli authorities.
