Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas will meet in Jerusalem on Monday, instead of in Jericho as previously planned. Had the meeting taken place in Jericho, it would have been the first time an Israeli prime minister held a meeting in PA-controlled territory.
While Olmert and Abbas agreed several months ago to meet every two weeks, many recent meetings have been called off due to political tensions. In their upcoming meeting Olmert is expected to make gestures to Abbas, including the release of roughly 250 terrorist prisoners and the removal of 178 Fatah terrorists from Israel’s “wanted” list.
