Ra’anan Dinur, deputy director of the Prime Minister’s Office, reported to the State Control Committee on Tuesday that the vast majority of Gaza evacuees would not get permanent housing for several years. Building has begun for only 2 of the 24 communities scheduled to be built for the former residents of Gush Katif and other Gaza communities. The original expectation was that the government would provide permanent, community-based housing for the evacuees within two years of the disengagement.

Despite criticism from the right, left, and center, including from his own Kadima party, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and his office, including Dinur, maintain that the government is fulfilling its duties toward the evacuees.
