Foreign ministers from Egypt and Jordan will represent the Arab League in the first-ever delegation to meet in Israel this week, according to a Voice of America report. The planned historic meeting reflects growing concern by the 22 Arab nations about the Hamas military takeover in Gaza last month.

The Arab League has backed the Saudi 2002 initiative for a new Arab state encompassing all of Judea, Samaria and Gaza in return for recognition of the Jewish State. Israel has rejected the proposal.

Observers said that the strategy of the Arab League is to create a new Arab state as soon as possible in order to prevent Hamas from taking over Judea and Samaria.
