Tax Money Transfers to PA Gov’t Start Sunday or Monday
Israel will begin to transfer tax monies collected on behalf of the Palestinian Authority government either Sunday or Monday, according to Israeli officials quoted by Reuters.
“Everything that needed to be agreed upon has been agreed,” said the source. “From July 1, there will be automatic transfers of the tax money. It is supposed to happen now, Sunday or Monday.”
It was not clear how much of the more than half a billion dollars would be transferred in the first payment. Israel has withheld the money since the Hamas terrorist organization was elected by PA Arabs to rule the government in January 2006.
The payments will now be transferred to the emergency PA government led by Fatah leader and PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, who dissolved the previous unity government after Hamas took over Gaza in a bloody coup several weeks ago.
