MK Zeev Proposes Counseling for Homosexuals
MK Nissim Zeev (Shas) proposed a new campaign on Thursday that would seek to reduce the number of homosexual men and women by providing counseling. Zeev expressed sympathy with homosexuals, and said the government should “open their eyes” by providing a chain of institutions focusing on changing sexual tendencies.
Zeev rejected arguments that homosexual tendencies are inborn, saying “they can be helped... we need to set up a team of psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers.” The teams, he said, could explain to homosexuals that their behavior “injures, destroys, and lays waste to our existence.” If he could get support from the Knesset, Zeev added, he would attempt to pass a law against sodomy similar to laws that were in place in the past, and would require those who broke the law to attend two years of rehabilitative therapy.
