US President George W. Bush spoke to PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and expressed support for the new PA and its Prime Minister, Salam Fayad. The US has pledged to renew economic support for the PA, now that it no longer includes the Hamas terrorist organization. During the conversation, Abbas encouraged Bush to push to restart the peace process with Israel and to give Arabs in Judea and Samaria a “political horizon”.
