Israel said it will open up the Erez Crossing to allow medical supplies for Gaza residents. The government earlier ordered a blanket halt to shipments of goods through all of the crossings from Gaza, including the key Karni Crossing.
"Given recent developments in the Gaza Strip and the closure of crossings between it and Israel, I hereby inform you that no cargo destined for the strip is to be released until further notice," an Israeli Finance Ministry official in charge of customs wrote international customs agents .
Senior Palestinian Authority (PA) official Saeb Erekat said he had asked Israel to allow the flow of fuel and raw materials. Fuel supplies were restored earlier on Monday.
