Palestinian Authority police arrested a religious Jewish man in the center of Shechem on Sunday night. The man, a member of the Breslov Hassidic sect, had apparently made his way around the checkpoints surrounding the city and taken a taxi to the city center, with the goal of praying at Joseph’s Tomb.
The PA police, who control security in the city, arrested the man and turned him over to IDF soldiers. From there the man was transferred to the local police headquarters in Samaria.
IDF officials reported that the man was not harmed by local Arabs or the PA police. They warned others that it is “completely forbidden” to enter Shechem or any other city under PA control.
