According to Arab sources in the Palestinian Authority (PA), officials close to PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas have asked the IDF to effectively cease its counter-terror activities in Judea and Samaria. Such a move, they said, would help the PA restore its authority and assist the new government headed by Salam Fayad in its struggle for popular acceptance over Hamas' government, led by Ismail Haniyeh.
According to Ynet, the PA officials want Israel to agree to stop hunting down wanted fugitives from Fatah, to stop entering PA controlled towns and villages and to cease arresting terrorist suspects, other than "ticking time bombs."
