Security sources said Sunday the Erez Crossing has been shut down until further notice after Hamas terrorists succeeded in routing Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah forces in last week’s takeover of Gaza.

Some 300 Gaza residents, desperate to flee the area, have gathered at the Erez Crossing in hopes of entering Israel. Hundreds of others massed at the crossing on Saturday afternoon for the same purpose, but were turned away.

Gaza terrorists fired mortar shells and Kassam rockets several times last week at IDF positions near the crossing, which was used for the transfer of goods and movement of diplomats and other officials between pre-1967 Israel and Gaza.
