European Union Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana said Wednesday that the EU would consider stationing an international force in Gaza. However, he said, while EU participation in an international force is possible, it will not happen in the near future. No regional leaders have officially asked for the EU’s help, he said.
Leftist Israeli politicians MK Zahava Gal-On (Meretz) and MK Avshalom Vilan (Meretz) have called repeatedly for an international force in Gaza consisting of members of the EU and the Arab League. Arab terrorists in Gaza have rejected the idea, saying it would undermine their efforts to establish an autonomous state in the region.
