El Al Names New 777-200 For Sderot

El Al has named the newest addition to its fleet of airplanes “Sderot,” in honor of the embattled western Negev town targeted by Gazan terrorists with Kassam rockets.

Several residents of Sderot will be hosted on the Boeing 777-200’s inaugural flight to Tel Aviv from New York.

Other cities already used as names for El Al planes are Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Tiberias and Haifa. Though this is the first new plane purchased by El Al in seven years, the next plane will be called Kiryat Shemona – for the northern city battered by Katyusha missiles during the Second Lebanon War.
