The Council of the Olympic Order has awarded Ben Gurion University Professor Shaul Ladany the Pierre de Coubertin Medal for outstanding services to the Olympic Movement.

The professor in the department of Industrial Engineering and Development was recognized as "an unusual person with unusual outstanding sports achievements during a span covering over four decades." Prof. Ladany, a Holocaust survivor, holds the world record for long-distance walking.

He was among five Israelis who escaped the terrorist attack on Israeli athletes at the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972.
