Finance Ministry Proposes Changes to Health Care

(IsraelNN.com) Finance Ministry officials have proposed a series of changes to the health care system, and plan to make their ideas part of the 2008 budget. Among other things, ministry officials will try to remove cancer medications from the list of medicines included in basic health coverage.

Officials explained that some medicines recently added to basic coverage are very expensive and are not generally included in public health care costs. They said the basic coverage provides appropriate care without the latest additions, which they say will make the cost of providing public health unreasonably high.

Officials also recommended that a fifth health coverage provider be made available, and that the cost to patients of choosing their own doctor or surgeon be reduced.
