Responding to reports of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's offers to Syria, MK Tzvi Hendel (NU/NRP) says there is "no chance" that Olmert could lead such a move.
"A corrupt leader who is supported by 2% of the nation and 60% of the corrupt Knesset Members has no chance of pushing through a crazy move like uprooting the Golan," Hendel said. "I hope the 'etrog' saga won't repeat itself," he added.
The 'etrog' refers to the way the media shielded former Prime Minister Arial Sharon from criticism during the Gaza Disengagement, in order to facilitate that move. A leftist journalist said at the time that Sharon should be guarded "like an etrog" – referring to the fruit used in Succot observance and kept inside a padded box.
