Campaign for Closing of Disengagement Court Cases
The 'Mattot Arim' council is encouraging a public campaign intended to convince the Justice Ministry to close 1,000 court proceedings against anti-Disengagement activists. The cases all involve minor criminal charges against 'orange' activists who participated in demonstrations during the 2005 demolition of Gush Katif.
'Mattot Arim' claims that the human and financial resources poured into the prosecution of these 1,000 cases would be better used to fight traffic accidents. None of the 1,000 cases involve physical injury, the council stated.
Wholesale closure of cases is not unprecedented, the council noted. Only four years ago, 13,000 cases were closed by the prosecution in Tel Aviv Region.
