Former Envoy to Israel May Be Britain's Policy Advisor

Simon McDonald, former British ambassador to Israel, is expected to become the foreign policy advisor in the next British government. Gordon Brown will replace Prime Minister Tony Blair at the end of the month when his resignation becomes effective.

McDonald, who is considered to be a friend of Israel, was ambassador from 2003 to 2006 and learned Hebrew well enough to make a speech in Hebrew. He now is in charge of the Iraq desk at the Foreign Office.
