Syria would like to renew talks with Israel, according to a source quoted by AFP, saying its position is not new.

“Our position is the same,” said the source. “We are interested in renewing negotiations……We are closely monitoring Israel’s statements.”

The source added, however, that Syria is not convinced that Israel’s intentions are peaceful, despite Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s repeated declaration at a security cabinet meeting Wednesday that Israel does not seek war with its northern neighbor.
