Israel’s delegation to the United Nations filed an official complaint with the UN Security Council on Wednesday following a speech made by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad. Ahmedinejad said that “the countdown has begun” to Israel’s destruction. The Israeli delegates are asking the council to condemn Ahmedinejad’s statements.
Iranian officials have refused to stop their nuclear development program despite international opposition. Israeli ambassador to the United States Sallai Meridor said Wednesday that if Iran’s program is not stopped, the country will be able to develop nuclear weapons by 2009.
