American Congress Votes to Move Embassy to Jerusalem
The United States House of Congress voted on Tuesday night to move the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The vote was scheduled to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem in the Six Day War. Members of Congress took the opportunity to congratulate Israel, and called on the rest of the world to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s indivisible capital.
A 1995 Congressional resolution calls on the Unites States to move its embassy to Jerusalem, and provides the funding to do so. However, former President Clinton and his successor, current President George Bush, have postponed the move.
