Sephardi Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar and Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger visited the western Negev town of Sderot on Sunday. The rabbis met with Sderot Mayor Eli Moyal and discussed the situation in the town, which has been hit by dozens of rockets in the past weeks.
After the meeting, the rabbis led a prayer session in which they read psalms, blew a shofar (ram’s horn), and prayed for divine forgiveness. “The blast of the shofar broke the silence of the city,” Rabbi Metzger said. “Let it arouse heavenly mercy.”
