Ministerial C'tee Urges Streamlined Conversion Process

A ministerial committee recommended, in an interim report submitted to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, that a new, streamlined track for conversion be established. The inter-ministerial committee said the existing process is extremely complex and that many of those who wish to convert are unable to do so.

Recommendations to the prime minister included the appointment of additional rabbinic judges as well as integration of all bodies involved in the Israeli conversion process.

Sources said that many people who wish to become Orthodox Jews in Israel are faced with countless difficulties when attempting to complete a conversion and secure citizenship.
