Meretz MKs Avshalom Vilan and Zahava Gal-On have created a diplomatic proposal that would put an international force in charge of security in the Palestinian Authority-controlled Gaza region. Vilan and Gal-On have met with officials in the PA and with foreign diplomats in the past several weeks in order to promote their plan.

According to the plan, the Arab League would take control of Gaza, and a multi-national force sponsored by the League and the United Nations Security Council would be stationed in the area. The League would also be in charge of negotiations with Israel.  Discussions over the 2002 Saudi Peace Plan, which calls for Israel to give Judea, Samaria, and much of Jerusalem to the PA, would be a “package deal” with the Gaza security arrangement.
