Syrian President Bashar Assad said Monday that he was pleased by the large number of voters who turned out to vote him in for a second seven-year term on Sunday. The voters were allowed to choose between “yes” or “no” to Assad. No other candidate was allowed to run in the election.

Syria’s opposition movements boycotted the election, accusing Assad of repression and corruption and saying that other candidates should have been allowed to run. The official results of the election will be released on Monday night at approximately 7 PM.
