(IsraelNN.com) The Committee for Constitution and Law has approved a proposal that would limit the ability of gay activists to hold an annual parade in Jerusalem. The proposed law, which was created by MK Eliyahu Gabbai (NU/NRP), received support from Kadima MKs Yaakov Edery and Gidon Ezra and MK Yitzchak Aharonovitch of Israel Beiteinu as well as religious parties such as Shas.

The law would allow the Jerusalem City Council to prohibit the parade due to religious considerations or concern for public order. It is scheduled to face a vote in the Knesset on Wednesday, however, Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann has announced his strong opposition to the law, and plans to file an appeal to the committee before the vote.
