Sources in Hamas reported that two of its terrorists were critically wounded on Sunday night. The men were wounded while firing a mortar shell from southern Gaza at the western Negev, the sources said.

Hamas claimed that IDF soldiers saw the men firing the shell and responded with artillery fire, which caused their injuries. IDF sources rejected the claims, saying that the IDF noted the mortar fire but did not return fire with its artillery.
