New Plan to Aid Holocaust Survivors
Welfare Minister Itzhak Herzog will meet with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Monday and will present a plan to provide needy Holocaust survivors with government aid. The plan will assist approximately 150,000 survivors, most of them immigrants from the CIS, who are not eligible for aid under existing laws.
The plan will cost approximately one billion shekels per year, and will be funded in part by the Jewish Agency and German reparations payments. Among other things, the plan will provide nutrition consultation, psychological care, and consultation with officials who will inform survivors of the benefits and aid available to them.
