Rabbinate Upholds Caucus Ban

The Chief Rabbinate decided on Thursday to uphold a ban on Jewish participation in a Christian women’s caucus planned for next week. Two of three rabbis voted for the ban, fearing that the Christian groups involved in the caucus support missionary activity.

The caucus was planned by the Knesset’s Christian Allies Caucus, a three-year-old committee headed by MK Benny Elon (NU/NRP), a rabbi. It was opposed by Jerusalem councilwoman Mina Fenton, also of NU/NRP, a long-time activist against missionary activity in Israel.
