Israel's General Security Service (Shin Bet) released for publication Thursday morning information on a would-be assassin who planned to murder the prime minister and others under the guise of working for a humanitarian organization.
Matzab Bashir, of Dir al Balah in Gaza, a humanitarian worker for the Doctors Without Borders humanitarian organization, admitted to gathering intelligence information for a planned assassination attempt against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, and other high profile Israeli officials.
The GSS arrested Bashir in Jerusalem in mid April. He had been able to enter Israel from Gaza due to his status as a worker with Doctors Without Borders.
