The NU/NRP has decided to support Likud candidate Reuven Rivlin in the upcoming presidential race. NU/NRP members had deferred a decision on which candidate to support in case Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau, the Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv, decided to run. However, Rabbi Lau recently announced that he has made a final decision not to enter the race.
NU/NRP officials called Rivlin on Tuesday morning to inform him of the party’s decision. In an official announcement, Rivlin said that he is proud to have their backing, and that “I have nothing to say except to thank them for their support.”
