(IsraelNN.com) Lawyers for President Moshe Katzav expressed optimism on Tuesday night after their hearing before Attorney General Menachem Mazuz. The lawyers were hoping to convince Mazuz not to file an indictment against Katzav, and said the meeting was “good” and that Mazuz listened closely and asked questions about the evidence they presented.

The hearing was the second held, because the lawyers were unable to present all of their evidence in a single meeting. Katzav’s legal team will present their arguments about the case in writing within a week. Officials in the Justice Ministry and police will look over the evidence and review Katzav’s arguments before deciding whether or not to file an indictment.

Katzav has been accused of sexual harassment and rape. His lawyers argue that the main accuser in the case has repeatedly changed her testimony, and say they have additional evidence proving Katzav’s innocence.
