(IsraelNN.com) A criminal investigation against State Comptroller and Ombudsman Micha Lindenstrauss that was requested Monday by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is unlikely to take place, according to police and legal sources.

The Prime Minister accused retired Justice Lindenstrauss of leaking information concerning probes of his financial activities. Prime Minister Olmert's request to Attorney General Menachem Mazuz to conduct an investigation intensified the dispute between the two and aroused widespread criticism.

"He [Lindenstrauss] is the one who broke the law, both by his systematic leakage of comptroller's reports and by his mistreatment of the prime minister, while neglecting the basic rules of fairness and integrity that apply to every civil servant," Prime Minister Olmert's lawyers wrote the Attorney General.
