Students protested violently in the Rose Garden outside the Knesset on Monday. Nine students were arrested and four police officers were injured in the clashes.

Student leaders met with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for the first time in over a week, in an attempt to bring the month-old student strike to an end.

Earlier on Monday, it was announced that the Shochat Committee recommends raising university and college tuition by 40%.
