Jordanian King Abdullah II warned visiting American Vice President Dick Cheney Monday that time is running out on implementing the Saudi Arabian 2002 initiative. The plan, revived late last year by Israel's surprise acceptance of it as a basis for negotiations, calls on Israel to return to its 1949 Armistice Line borders and to accept the immigration of former Arab Israelis and their descendants. In return, Arab countries would recognize Israel.
The Arab League adopted the plan but added that it is non-negotiable. Meeting at the king's Red Sea resort, he suggested that there should be "a time frame to establish tangible results on the ground" concerning the Saudi plan.
