Peace Now: Jerusalem Celebrations Damage Int’l Status

(IsraelNN.com) Peace Now Secretary-General Yariv Oppenheimer slammed the upcoming celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem on Sunday.

“The celebration of the capital’s reunification under these circumstances will further damage the city’s international status,” he told reporters.

Oppenheimer, commenting on the boycott of Jerusalem Day ceremonies by the United States and member nations of the European Union, added that the rejections proved that the world “does not consider Jerusalem to be Israel’s capital.”

The festivities will begin Sunday evening on the roof of the King David Hotel in a ceremony to throw the switch on a network of blue and white lights that will bring nighttime sparkles to outline the walls of Jerusalem’s Old City.
