Yesha Rights Org, Reservists: Don't Dismiss Cpt. Y.

Reported: 11:01 AM - May/11/07

(IsraelNN.com) The commander of IDF forces in Judea and Samaria, Brig.-Gen. Yair Golan, will hold an inquiry into the incident in which an officer inflicted pain on an anarchist enemy collaborator. Military police are also investigating the incident, which occurred when Arabs began driving through an IDF roadblock they had dismantled.

The Organization for Human Rights in Judea and Samaria has asked the division commander not to dismiss the officer. The organization said that the event is the result of the forgiving policy adopted by the IDF and police towards leftist activists who endanger human life. "The incident required a systemic inquiry, and the soldiers left to their own devices on the ground should not be paying the price."

Reservist soldiers held an emergency gathering Thursday in Herzliya Pituach, complaining that the IDF's top officers and Defense Minister Amir Peretz were not backing them morally. "How can he [Peretz] denounce an event before he has found out exactly what happened?"
