Israel Railways' train service was halted at midnight and will only be renewed at just after midnight Sunday morning. Trains that begin their route before midnight will not run.

Israel Railways announced the stoppage in order to enable it to install a new traffic control system – the "Command 900" – which it says will make the trains safer and help them keep to schedule.

The Egged bus company has put dozens of extra buses on routes similar to those of Israel Railways' in order to provide transport for people who would otherwise take the train.
