    Hamas, Islamic Jihad Strengthen Ties

Officials from Hamas and Islamic Jihad met on Tuesday to discuss cooperation between the two groups. The officials, Mahmoud Al-Zahar from Hamas and Nafaz Azzam from Islamic Jihad, did not rule out the possibility that the two groups could merge someday.

Al-Zahar and Azzam explained that both groups sprung from the Muslim Brothers, and the main difference has been in their political views. However, now that armed attacks on Israel are government policy, Azzam said, the main disagreement between the two groups is no longer relevant. The two agreed to cooperate on several issues, including in elections for workers’ associations and student unions.
