IDF officials said Tuesday that at least one of the Kassam rockets fired at Sderot in the past few days was an upgraded and more dangerous model than has been used in the past. The upgraded rocket, which landed in a field in Sderot without causing injury, was initially termed an “unknown object” by security officials due to its unusual design, but was later classified as a sophisticated Kassam.
Security officials said they had suspected that recent Kassam rockets were technologically superior to previously used rockets when three made direct hits in Sderot within less than one week. One of the rockets landed in a gas station, moderately wounding a bystander.
